CBD Oil in Massachusetts

Hemp has been grown by farmers in Massachusetts since 2011, with the House Bill 2758 which regulated the cultivation of industrial hemp in the state. In 2013, this state allowed the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, and in 2017 it allowed the recreational use.

The state does not have any separate law limiting the use of CBD oil and other CBD products, making it completely free to use, in accordance to the Farm Bill of 2018 which regulated hemp and CBD oil on a federal level.

Hemp and Marijuana – The Basics

The cannabis plant comes in two main varieties: hemp and marijuana. The marijuana produces THC, a psychoactive compound that is on the list of banned or controlled substances. Hemp is the CBD-rich variety and is usually grown for the production of CBD, fiber, textile, paper, human food and animal feed and more.

Many states in the Union have implemented hemp growing programs, incorporating the industrial hemp in their agricultural crops, and using it for many applications, mainly for the production of CBD, (cannabidiol), a molecule that has some very good medicinal properties. CBD helps people manage pain; seizures; it helps with arthritis; anxiety; PTSD; depression; inflammation, and many other medical issues.

There are strains of cannabis that produce high THC content and low CBD content, strains that product high CBD and low THC content, and strains that produce equal amounts of THC and CBD.

  • R-4 is a hybrid strain that has about 20% CBD as opposed to the 1% THC. This strain has traits from both its indica and sativa parents, and the terpene profile is varied. The large CBD content helps with inflammation, nausea, cramps, depression, and pain. It smells of nuts and damp earth and leaves a buttery aftertaste in the mouth.
  • Canna-Tsu is a CBD-rich strain that is appreciated by the users of medical marijuana. It has about 10% CBD, and very low THC content. The smell of the Canna-Tsu bud is sour, slightly earthy, and leaves a piney, citrusy flavor. It is used for managing pain, stress, depression, muscle spasms, inflammation, and insomnia.
