CBD For Pets

It’s possible that humans may benefit from receiving some form of CBD, whether it comes in a liquid form like an oil or in a solid form like a gummy. However, it has also been proven that animals can benefit from consuming CBD as well. Physical ailments like epileptic seizures are commonly addressed through the use of CBD Oil, which may work in the case of humans, but this is also becoming the case in pets.

Can CBD Hemp Help Your Pet?

According to a report by Georgina Child from the Small Animal Specialist Hospital, seizures, fits or convulsions are a relatively common disorder in pets. It is estimated that 1-5% of all dogs have a seizure disorder. When the brain has a transitory disturbance, that is the definition of a seizure. Some of the signs to watch out for in dogs if it appears that they are experiencing a partial seizure include them walking in circles, appearing disoriented, often being hungry or thirsty, or occasionally appearing to be aggressive.

Study Disclosing CBD Treatment In Dogs

Dr. Stephanie McGrath, a neurologist who has spent her career treating seizure disorders, spinal cord disorders, and brain diseases, is currently leading a Colorado State University study on the veterinary CBD treatment of epilepsy and osteoarthritis in dogs. In this study, each dog is randomly assigned to receive either a placebo or CBD Oil for six weeks, and then given the opposite medication for the next six weeks. During this course of time each dog receives X-rays, daily pain assessment, daily fifteen minute walks, bloodwork and more.

Considering that CBD Oil may possibly help with various issues in the human body, such as but not limited to anxiety, phobias, chronic pain, and inflammation, giving pets a similar amount of CBD to consume may not a bad idea. Along with CBD, the cannabis plant contains multiple different chemicals in phytocannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. Specific cannabinoid receptor sites can be found in humans and other mammals, which are primarily in the brain, the central nervous system, and immune cells.

Owners Have Provided Testimonials

Dog owners have provided their own testimonials concerning their pets consuming CBD Oil. In one case a dog was almost 14 years of age. The dog was diagnosed with cancer and was offered chemotherapy. However, the dog’s owners decided to give him drops of CBD Oil. The dog has been hopping away as if he were a younger dog. In another case, a dog had a severe storm anxiety all his life. Whenever he became anxious the dog would vomit. CBD Oil reportedly helps him sleep and enables him to eat without vomiting.

Australian holistic veterinarian Dr. Edward Bassingthwaighte has seen firsthand how positive the effects of cannabis have been when treating dogs with it, and he has described some of these cases. One dog was a senior Staffy who had a fast-growing tumor of 6 centimeters in diameter in her mammary gland. Chest X-rays revealed that metastasis might be present. Dr. Bassingthwaighte gave the dog CBD Oil and other herbal medicines. The tumor shrunk down to nothing in just over 3 months, and the tumor hasn’t returned ever since.

The other case Bassingthwaighte saw involved a Jack Russell Terrier that had a severe heart murmur and painful arthritis. The dog received a whole plant extract containing CBD, diluted in 10 milliliters of cold-pressed hemp oil. Taking this medicine for one month the dog became much happier and more active, wanting to go for long walks. His heart murmur was much less severe. Bassingthwaighte states that heart murmurs normally don’t improve over time.

CBD can now be bought in the form of concentrated capsules. These capsules are rendered to focus on pain relief and filter out any trace of THC. Concentrated CBD may be a powerful pain reliever because it interferes with the transmission of pain signals to the brain. It’s been said that this can be done without one’s motor functions or psychological state being impacted in any way.

As both dogs and cats get older it may become more logical to administer medication in the form of concentrated CBD capsules. CBD Oil treatment that contains the appropriate portions for pets might significantly reduce the amount of pain they experience while improving their mobility.

One well-kept secret by top breeders is that they use regular does of CBD capsules to improve the strength and appearance of the coats of their dogs and cats for shows. Pet skin issues such as dermatitis, mange, alopecia, and allergies can be treated by CBD Oil.

CBD Oil For Cats (Specific Case)

Dave Hargett was experimenting with CO2 extractions around the time his family’s cat became ill, seemingly approaching “Death’s Door”. Mogli is a 17-year old cat who started to have trouble walking in November 2014. Dave’s mother took Mogli to the veterinarian, but the diagnosis was grim. While he could have been taken in for surgery, there was a great chance his health would be put at risk.

Hargett happens to be the founder of Innovative Extractions, a collective that gives patients CO2 extracts and other CBD products. Hargett managed to convince his mother to give Mogli a tincture of a CBD product, and soon after Mogli received this medication he was seen jumping onto the couch and then onto the counter. Months later, according to Hargett, Mogli has been experiencing a more pain-free life, even if all his pains aren’t completely cured.

There are many success stories out there that cover the rehabilitation of family pets with the help of CBD Oil. In recent times it has become clear that pets should be able to receive various CBD treatments. Since it’s possible that humans benefit from consumption, having pets consume even a fraction of the amount humans consume would do wonders for them.
